Panasonic TV Blink Codes – Complete Diagnostic Guide
Panasonic TVs use a built-in self-diagnostic system: when the TV detects an internal fault, the red standby LED blinks a repeating pattern. The number of blinks before the pause is your error code. Panasonic’s system is one of the most detailed among TV manufacturers, with codes covering specific boards and voltage rails.
Important note: Panasonic blink codes differ between LED/LCD models (Viera TX/TH series) and older Plasma models (TC-P series). The codes below apply primarily to LED/LCD models. Plasma models have a separate, more complex code system. Always identify your TV type before ordering parts.
Before you start: Unplug the TV, press and hold the power button on the TV for 30 seconds, wait 60 seconds, then plug back in. This resolves many temporary faults without any further action.

First Step – Power Reset
Before opening the TV or ordering parts, always try a full power reset:
- Unplug the TV from the wall socket
- Press and hold the power button on the TV itself for 30 seconds
- Wait 60 seconds
- Plug back in and try to power on
- Disconnect all external devices and retry with nothing connected
On some Panasonic models, pressing VOL– + MENU simultaneously while plugging in can initiate a diagnostic reset. Consult your model’s service documentation for this procedure.
1 Blink – Power Supply or Panel Fault
One blink on a Panasonic TV indicates a standby 5V timeout — the mainboard is not detecting the correct standby voltage from the power supply board, or the panel sense circuit has failed.
Check the power supply board first for bulging capacitors. If a new power board does not resolve the issue, the LCD panel itself may be at fault — an expensive component that often makes repair uneconomical.
2 Blinks – Power Supply or D Board
Two blinks indicates a fault on the power supply board or D board (video signal processing board). The power board is the more common failure. Inspect for bulging capacitors and test output voltages with a multimeter if possible.
Power supply board replacement is plug-and-play. The D board handles video signal conversion and is also replaceable without soldering on most models.
3 and 4 Blinks – AP Board or Power Supply
Three and four blinks both point to the AP board (auxiliary power board) on models that use one, or the main power supply board on models without a separate AP board. Three blinks indicates an overcurrent or overvoltage condition; four blinks indicates a specific voltage rail fault (DTV9V or SUB_5V).
Inspect the AP board and power supply board for damaged capacitors. The AP board is repairable — individual capacitor replacement can resolve this fault on many models.
5 Blinks – Mainboard Voltage Fault
Five blinks indicates a voltage fault on the mainboard — specifically the Main+3.3V, Main+5V, or Main+9V rails are not within spec. The mainboard generates these voltages internally from the power supply input.
Check the power supply board output first (ensure correct voltage is reaching the mainboard). If power supply output is correct, the mainboard has an internal fault and requires replacement.
7 Blinks – T-Con Board
Seven blinks on Panasonic LED TVs typically points to the T-Con board or the backlight driver circuit. Symptoms of T-Con failure:
- Horizontal or vertical lines across the screen
- Image split horizontally — top half correct, bottom half wrong
- Screen flickers with sound working normally
- TV powers on but no image appears
Always reseat ribbon cables connecting the T-Con to the mainboard and panel before replacing the board. T-Con replacement is plug-and-play.
8 Blinks – Mainboard Fault
Eight blinks indicates a mainboard fault — typically in the audio output section or a general system error. Try a USB firmware update first if the TV has any display output. If not, the mainboard requires replacement.
10 Blinks – Mainboard or Power Supply Voltage Fault
Ten blinks indicates abnormal voltages on one or more rails monitored by the mainboard. This can be caused by:
- Faulty power supply board not supplying correct voltages
- A failed IC (frame converter IC4200) on the mainboard
- Short circuit on one of the DC voltage rails
Check power supply board output voltages with a multimeter. If voltages are correct, the mainboard requires replacement.
13 Blinks – Mainboard Communication Error
Thirteen blinks indicates a communication error on the mainboard — specifically a fault in the DG or DN board IC (IC8001) which monitors inter-board communication. This typically requires mainboard replacement. A hard reset can occasionally clear this fault if it was triggered by a power surge.
Backlight Failure (No Blink Code)
Panasonic LED TVs sometimes shut down due to backlight failure without producing a specific blink code. Use the flashlight test to diagnose:
In a dark room, shine a torch at the screen while the TV attempts to power on. If you can see a faint image, the LED backlight strips have failed but the panel and mainboard are working correctly. Replace the LED backlight strips.
