Philips TV Blink Codes – Complete Diagnostic Guide
Philips TVs use a built-in diagnostic system: when the TV detects an internal fault and cannot start normally, the red standby LED blinks a repeating pattern. The number of blinks before the pause is your error code. Codes range from 2 to 8 blinks, each pointing to a specific board or component.
Before you start: Unplug the TV from the wall, press and hold the power button on the TV for 30 seconds, wait 60 seconds, then plug back in. This clears transient faults and resolves a significant number of blink code issues without opening the TV.

First Step – Power Reset

6 Blinks – Processor Communication or Power Supply
Six blinks indicates the TV’s main processor cannot communicate correctly with other boards — usually because of voltage irregularities from the power supply.
What to do:
- Reseat all ribbon cables between the power supply board and mainboard
- Use a multimeter to check the output voltages on the power supply board — compare against the values printed on the board label. A reading more than 10% below the labelled value indicates a failing power board
- If voltages are correct, the mainboard processor has likely failed
7 Blinks – Power Supply Board
Seven blinks on a Philips TV most commonly indicates power supply board failure — blown capacitors, a failed transformer, or a faulty rectifier circuit.
Also check:
- Power cable and wall socket — try a different socket
- Mainboard — if a new power board does not resolve the fault
If the TV is entering protection mode due to a power surge, multiple power resets (2–3 attempts) can sometimes clear the fault without board replacement.
8 Blinks – Standby Protection Loop
Eight blinks indicates the TV is stuck in a standby protection loop and cannot exit. The TV detects a fault condition and refuses to power on to protect internal components.

- If power is confirmed reaching the TV, the power supply board has likely failed completely — it is not producing standby voltage
